Air St. Luke’s

Doctors and families throughout the region trust Air St. Luke’s to carry their precious cargo in a medical emergency. With a dedicated team of professionals highly trained to the specific needs of newborns, pregnant women, children, and adult patients with cardiac or other critical needs, Air St. Luke’s is the region’s most comprehensive medical transport program, operating as mobile critical care units with advanced lifesaving equipment and technology.

From bases in Boise and Twin Falls, we serve Southern Idaho, Eastern Oregon, and northern Nevada. And through our partners in the Association of Air Medical Memberships Programs (AAMMP), coverage for Air St. Luke’s members extends to Northern and Eastern Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Western Montana, and Northern California south to the Santa Barbara area.

Idaho Helicopters, Inc. is the FAR Part 135 Certificate Holder providing aviation services and owns and operates the helicopters used by Air St. Luke's. Turbo Air, Inc. is the FAR Part 135 Certificate Holder providing aviation services and owns and operates the airplanes used by Air St. Luke's.

Our Transport Fleet

Our air transport teams are critical care transport (CCT) certified and our ground transport teams are either CCT certified or advanced life support (ALS) certified. Air St. Luke's is licensed to operate all of the modes of transport listed below in Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada. 

  • Rotor Wing (Helicopter)

      • Primary - Bell 429 helicopters based in Twin Falls and Boise, which meet and exceed all NTSB safety recommendations 
      • Backup - Bell 429 helicopter based in Boise, with the same capabilities as the primary aircraft fleet
      • Rotor wing services provided by the FAR Part 135 Certificate Holder, Idaho Helicopters, Inc.

  • Fixed Wing (Airplane)

      • Primary - King Air 200 based in Boise, with two-patient transport and extended-distance travel capability
      • Backup - King Air 200 based in Boise, with the same capability as the primary aircraft
      • Fixed wing services provided by the FAR Part 135 Certificate Holder, Turbo Air, Inc.

  • Ground Ambulances

      • Seven ambulances owned and operated by Air St. Luke's
      • Two ambulances able to accommodate a NICU isolette 
      • Primarily used for inter-facility transport

Our Team

  • Advanced Life Support

    • Inter-facility transport teams consisting of EMT and paramedic, trained in broad range of ALS support for all age groups. Primary focus is moving patients within the St. Luke’s Health System Treasure Valley region.

      Ground ALS EMT 
      • Current Idaho Advanced EMT license (EMTA)
      • BLS for healthcare provider
      • Current and continuous valid driver’s license and minimum of 21 years of age
      • Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) at time of hire or within 1 year
      Ground ALS Paramedic  
      • Idaho license EMT-Paramedic (EMTP)
      • BLS, ACLS, PALS
      • Completion of NRP within 6 months of hire, PHTLS within one year of hire
      • Current and continuous valid driver’s license

  • Communications Center

    • Communication and logistic specialist team capable of handling transport arrangements for inter-facility and external or scene call needs. 

      Communications Center Specialist  
      • 2 years public-safety or medical dispatch experience 
      • Current EMT-B license (EMTB)
      • Able to pass a hearing screening
      • NAACS certification obtained within 1 year of hire

  • Critical Care Transport

    • Specialized critical care transport (CCT) teams consisting of RN and paramedic, trained to manage critical care patients covering all age groups.

      Critical Care Flight Nurse
      • Idaho license Registered Nurse (RN)
      • 3 years critical care experience (ICU/ED) - 4,000+ hours
      • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TPATC
      • National certification in critical care within 2 years of hire
      Critical Care Flight Paramedic
      • Idaho license EMT-Paramedic (EMTP)
      • 3 years working within a busy 9-1-1 response service - 4,000+ hours
      • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TPATC
      • National certification in critical care within 2 years of hire

  • Maternal-Child Critical Care Transport (MatCh)

    • Specialized critical care transport team consisting of RN and respiratory therapist (RT), trained to manage critical care maternal and pediatric patients. The only Idaho-based team equipped with isolette capabilities to support best practice in supporting NICU and PICU patients during transport.

      Maternal-Child Flight Nurse
      • Idaho license Registered Nurse (RN)
      • 3 years PICU/NICU experience - 4,000+ hours
      • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TPATC or TNCC
      • National certification in critical care within 2 years of hire
      Maternal-Child Flight Respiratory Therapist
      • Idaho License Respiratory Therapist (RT)
      • 3 years PICU/NICU experience - 4,000+ hours
      • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TPATC or PHTLS
      • National certification in critical care within 2 years of hire

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) is dedicated to improving the quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment for services providing rotor wing, fixed wing, and ground transport systems. Air St. Luke’s has been accredited since 2005.
