Great things happen when we work together. St. Luke’s is a dedicated partner with local organizations across the region—all working together to improve the health of people in the communities we serve.

Our goal is to create healthier communities by building stronger partnerships, creating positive and measurable outcomes, and maximizing our contribution by inspiring others.

We know that health goes beyond medical care. It's how we take care of ourselves, how we take care of each other and how we nurture our community. That’s why St. Luke’s supports our communities through:

  • Community Benefit: Millions of dollars in unreimbursed services, charity care, capital investments, and community services and programs.
  • Community Health Needs Assessments, which pinpoint and assess the most critical health care needs in our communities.
  • Community Health Improvement Fund, which awards grants to nonprofit organizations dedicated to good health and accessible health care.

Community Benefit

Our annual Community Benefit report underscores St. Luke’s ongoing commitment to our mission to improve the health of people in the communities we serve. The report shows real and tangible benefits to these communities. As a not-for-profit health care organization, St. Luke’s demonstrates its commitment to community service through organized and sustainable community benefit programs, including:

  • Free and discounted services for those unable to afford care.
  • Care for low-income beneficiaries of Medicaid and other indigent care programs.
  • Services designed to improve community health and increase access to health care.

Community Health Needs Assessments

The St. Luke’s Health System Community Health Needs Assessments, or CHNAs, help us better understand the most significant health challenges facing the people and families in communities across our region.

The comprehensive analysis allows us to pinpoint, assess, and address our communities’ most critical needs. St. Luke’s uses the information to guide the types of health improvement programs we provide and support with community partners. The goal is to address the top health needs, provide the best care, and lower the overall cost of health care.

Grants and Sponsorships

St. Luke’s Community Health Improvement Fund (CHIF) provides financial support to organizations or groups working to improve the health and well-being of people in our region. We annually accept requests for funding, which must meet specific criteria.

Community Skill Building

Because we understand the importance of community, collaboration and conversation, St. Luke's hopes to empower others in organizing and hosting change-making events and meetings of their own. Our Community Skill-Building and Conversations Playbook is designed to help you easily navigate the ins and outs of organizing and hosting meetings. We’ve included tips, considerations and practical examples based on our experiences. The playbook includes:

  • An outline of a community-event approach.
  • Recommendations and considerations for participants, speakers and facilitators.
  • Skill-building videos with exercises that discuss and demonstrate those skills.
  • An appendix with practical tools, such as marketing materials, a sample agenda and event resources.
