Boise State students raised more than $200,000 for St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through the sixth annual Boise State Dance Marathon over the weekend.
The dancing started on Friday at 3 p.m. and concluded at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at the Boise State Recreation Center with the big donation reveal: $203,837.18, the largest amount raised in the event’s history. The students’ goal was $190,000.
“I truly don’t have any words. That’s probably the most surreal feeling of my entire life. It could not have been possible without all of the people backing and supporting us,” said Mackenzie Saueressig, a junior who helped lead the event. “I think we are all still kind of in shock. It was a pretty amazing feeling, seeing those numbers.”
As students announced the final donation total, balloons and confetti fell from the rafters, bringing tears and jubilation to the worn-out students.
“Being able to see everyone in the crowd and everyone who stayed, and seeing the largest number we’ve ever had, is absolutely amazing,” said Marcus Ross, a junior from Coeur d’Alene who also helped lead the event. “It was absolutely amazing – breathtaking, honestly.”
About 700 students took part in the event. The Boise State Dance Marathon has raised nearly $575,000 over the past six years to benefit pediatric patients.
