When Dr. Jonathan Myers climbed Mount Borah in August 2016, his goal was to raise money to purchase a special piece of rehabilitation equipment and to raise awareness about balance rehabilitation.
He easily achieved both goals, and in January 2017 the new machine was installed at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation: Twin Falls.
People who have balance disorders use the machine to help manage dizziness and other symptoms. The machine was previously available in Boise and Salt Lake City, but Dr. Myers wanted patients in the Magic Valley area to have access to the therapy without traveling far from home.
Hundreds of patients have used the machine, according to Cole Small, physical therapist at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation: Twin Falls.
“I think it has been interesting to see how many people remember the Borah for Balance campaign but were unaware that it was for the (balance) machine specifically,” Small said. “It’s always fun to tell people the story of our climb and how inspiring it was. For me, it has made this piece of equipment more meaningful.”Michelle Bartlome is the public relations manager at St. Luke's Magic Valley.
