Programs across St. Luke’s Health System recently were awarded $46,000 in Susan G. Komen Community Grants for critical cancer screening, diagnostics and patient assistance.
In the Treasure Valley, St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute Breast Care Services was awarded $35,000. MSTI Breast Care Services provides a full-spectrum of services, including screening, diagnostics, surgery, treatment, education and navigation, reconstruction and survivorship. Financial resources to patients also reduce the financial barrier to care that is often an obstacle to wellness and health.
The Breast Care Services program serves Ada, Adams, Blaine, Boise, Camas, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Gooding, Owyhee, Payette, Valley and Washington counties.
In Twin Falls, St. Luke’s Magic Valley’s Treasure Chest received $4,000 from Susan G. Komen. The Treasure Chest program provides financial support to relieve some of the stress and burden cancer treatment causes patients and families. When we are able to relieve some of the financial burden, breast cancer patients and their families can focus on understanding their treatment and expending energy on getting well and moving on to survivorship.
The program serves Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Minidoka and Twin Falls counties.
In Sun Valley, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation received $7,000 to support St. Luke’s Wood River Breast Screening for the Uninsured and Underinsured Women Project. The program serves Blaine, Camas, Gooding and Lincoln counties.
In total, 13 programs received $155,000 in Susan G. Komen Community Grants. The programs cover the 28-county service area of Komen's Idaho affiliate. In the Treasure Valley alone, Komen Idaho slated $94,500 to local services, many of this funded by the public’s participation in events such as Komen Boise Race for the Cure. A total of $35,500 will go to services in the Magic Valley.
