Overnight Sleep Studies

Sleep testing gathers data including brain waves, oxygen levels, breathing effort, airflow, heart activity, and muscle movements to help assess sleep and its impact on your health and quality of life. 

Once you've changed, the technologist will attach sensors that will monitor you throughout the night, the sensors connect to a small input box you can carry with you if you have to use the restroom.

Depending on the type of data we're collecting, you may be asked to try a device called a continued positive airway pressure mask (CPAP). The CPAP prevents snoring and will allow you to sleep better.

Typically you'll be in bed between 9:30 and 11 p.m. The earlier you get to sleep the more data we can collect.

Patient Instructions:

  • Fill out the questionnaire, and bring it with you the night of your appointment. 
  • Bring pajamas or other comfortable clothing to sleep in. You may also bring your own pillow, and blanket.
  • The application of sensors can take an hour or more.
  • Hair should be clean, dry, and free of products. Fingernails should be free of polish.
  • Eat prior to the study, bring any additional food or care items that you will need throughout the night and in the morning. 

Your technologist won't be able to discuss the study results. Your test will be interpreted by a sleep physician and delivered to your referring provider in two to three weeks.
