Canyon County is growing, and St. Luke’s is growing too, expanding our orthopedics and sports medicine programs to meet the needs of this thriving community. We’re building a team of experts who provide orthopedic care for all ages and levels of activity, from children or teens with sports injuries to middle-aged and older adults facing hip or knee issues. We’re dedicated to helping you be as healthy and active as possible, and to get back to the activities you enjoy.

You can count on quality care closer to home from experienced orthopedic specialists, including physicians who are athletes themselves and truly understand athletes and their needs. Our physicians are fellowship trained, board certified, and highly skilled in general orthopedics, and have specialty training and interests in areas such as knee and hip replacement, hand and wrist care, foot and ankle care, pediatric orthopedics, and sports medicine. We also manage a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including scoliosis, osteoporosis, fractures, ligament and tendon injuries, and deformities from birth defects or trauma.

    Biography

    James T. Beckmann, MD, MS, AAOS, ABOS is fellowship trained in orthopedic sports medicine surgery specializing in arthroscopy of the hip, knee, and shoulder in both adults and pediatric patients. He currently serves as the medical director for the St. Luke’s athletic training residency program and as an orthopedic team physician for the Idaho Steelheads, Boise Hawks, US Soccer Federation, and Ridgevue Warhawks.

    Dr. Beckmann’s primary surgical specialties include: complex knee ligamentous reconstruction including ACL, patellar dislocation, meniscal tears, and cartilage restoration procedures; hip arthroscopy for structural disorders in athletes including labral repair; and shoulder disorders of the rotator cuff, labrum, and biceps tendon. In addition, he has expertise in tendon repairs of the hamstrings, biceps, and Achilles tendons. 

    Dr. Beckmann completed his specialty training at Stanford University, serving as an orthopedic team physician for their football, basketball, and volleyball teams. In 2018, he was selected as one of two physicians worldwide to complete a travelling fellowship in hip arthroscopy through the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA). As a travelling fellow, he worked with leaders in the field of hip arthroscopy learning state-of-the-art techniques in hip arthroscopy including Drs. Marc Philippon and Thomas Byrd. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and written seven chapters in prominent orthopedic textbooks.  

    Dr. Beckmann earned his bachelor’s degree at Duke University. He completed medical school at the Cleveland Clinic, where he also pursued a master’s degree in clinical trials.  He pursued his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Utah where he served as chief resident.

    Biography

    Krysten Bell, MD specializes in pediatric orthopedic surgical care, including trauma, complex hip deformities in children and young adults, scoliosis and other spine deformities, pediatric foot and ankle surgery, and pediatric sports injuries. She also works with neuromuscular conditions like cerebral palsy.

    Krysten is a candidate active member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Her research interests include outcomes following periacetabular osteotomy for residual hip dysplasia and surgical treatment of severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis.

    Biography

    Gary Botimer, MD, AOA, AAOS, ABOS specializes in complex lower extremity joint reconstruction, including knee and hip replacement. He has extensive experience in treating complex failed total joints and is active in research on new ways to treat infected failed total joints.

    Dr. Botimer has served on several international arthroplasty design teams and was head of Loma Linda University's arthroplasty division for several years. He enjoys seeing all types of orthopedic problems and helping his patients get the best treatment possible.

    Biography

    Scott Graviet, DPM specializes in general podiatry, podopediatrics, and reconstructive foot surgery. He earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and his medical degree from California College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his three-year residency in foot and ankle surgery at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, California.

    Biography

    Tracye J. Lawyer, MD, PhD is fellowship trained in sports medicine and specializes in arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. In addition to her medical degree, she also earned a PhD focusing on cartilage regeneration. Her special interests include pediatric and adult cartilage restoration and regeneration, meniscal allograft transplantation, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, shoulder arthroplasty, and patellar instability.

    Dr. Lawyer is the team physician for Middleton High School and assists with the care of high school and college athletes in Canyon County.

    Dr. Lawyer earned her bachelor's degree at Stanford University, where she was a two-sport athlete. She earned PAC-10 Player of the Year in soccer and was an NCAA track champion in the heptathlon. After college, she competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field, gaining valuable experience among the best athletes in the world. She later received the honor of induction into the Stanford Hall of Fame.

    Biography

    Leslie Lewis, PA-C is a certified physician assistant.

    Leslie earned bachelor's degrees in microbiology and Spanish from the University of Idaho. She earned her master's degree in clinical health services from the University of Washington.

    Prior to completing her formal education, Leslie was a medic in the Idaho National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2004-2005.

    Biography

    Kenneth T. Lindley, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery. He earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology and chemistry from Weber State University and his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia and one year of training through the Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at Triangle Orthopaedic Associates in Durham, North Carolina.
