Program Curriculum

The residency consists of 5 major content areas:

  • Foundational and clinical sciences
  • Critical inquiry/evidence-based practice
  • Advanced clinical skills
  • Education/consultation
  • Health promotions, fitness, and wellness

As part of this program, you’ll spend approximately 50-60% of your time performing direct patient care. The remaining time will be spent in athletic training rooms, surgical observation, clinical instruction, sporting event coverage, mentored instruction and research, and community education.

Program Details

The residency period is a minimum of one calendar year. You'll be considered a full-time, salaried employee, eligible to receive all benefits described within the St. Luke's employee handbook. Your salary will be 70% of the minimum therapist range and you'll be responsible for your own travel and living expenses. (For more information on program costs, please refer to our Residency and Financial Fact Sheet). If accepted, you may make a written request for a short sabbatical extending the residency program to a maximum of 15 months.

Although you'll be scheduled for 40 hours per week, there will be events on both weeknights and weekends that require additional hours without additional compensation. You may be allowed to work for other organizations, if your resident obligations are met first.

St. Luke's Sports Residency collaborates with other high profile residencies and fellowships in the Sports Inter-Residency Case Conference Series, which allows our current resident an opportunity to present nationally to an audience, including Duke, Ohio State, West Point, Cleveland Clinic, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and more.

How to Apply

All applicants to the residency program must apply through the RF PTCAS which can be found on the ABPTRFE website. Completed applications must be submitted by the date indicated in order to be considered for admission to the program in August. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

We will contact qualified applicants to make arrangements for an onsite interview date. Applicants will be given at least 5-6 weeks notice to make travel and hotel accommodations if selected for an interview. Although an onsite interview is encouraged, we may consider accommodating a telecommunication interview or alternate interview day/location. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance on the first Monday in March, the common offer date for all residencies. Acceptance letters will include a proposed pay rate, full list of benefits, and other items related to employment.

Please contact our program director with questions about the program, application process, or employment relationship.
