NICU Family Advisory Council

St. Luke’s support of our NICU Family Advisory Council is part of our philosophy of family-centered care. We believe that the important role the family plays in the health and care of their baby cannot be overstated, so we’re committed to including families in their baby’s care plan every step of the way.

Many parents and family members who’ve had a baby in St. Luke's NICU want to help other families and make the NICU experience the best it can be. These are the people who make up the Family Advisory Council.

If you want to make a difference in the lives of children and families, we invite and encourage you to get involved with the NICU Family Advisory Council. Members are expected to participate in monthly meetings and other activities. We need families from all areas of our region—not just Boise and Meridian. If you can’t physically attend meetings, we invite you to participate via phone from home.

Our Goals

  • To impact policies and the St. Luke's NICU environment to reflect the wants and needs of families
  • To promote family members on other St. Luke's committees to enhance care
  • To improve staff awareness of family needs
  • To continue providing a mechanism for feedback for families
  • To acknowledge the needs of families from other areas in the region
  • To share resources with families for care after their baby leaves the NICU
  • To achieve continuity of care between the NICU and other units within St. Luke's
  • To facilitate communication between care providers and families
  • To optimize patient safety
