Meet Our Parent Mentors

Rebekka

Rebekka is a mentor for parents caring for a child with colostomy and/or anxiety. She has experience working with specialists in the area of pediatric surgery and homeschooling.

My daughter Tenille began to struggle with rectal prolapse at age six. When her family doctor referred us to pediatric surgery and said, “hopefully they won’t have to do anything,” we could not have imagined the scale of the epic journey we were about to begin.

I have learned so much about how to navigate surgeries, communicate with physicians, and take life one step at a time, while still finding room to plan for the future and let go of past mistakes.

Tenille now has a diverting colostomy, and it truly changed her life for the better. She will be the first to tell you that! She is so much healthier and able to participate in all of her favorite activities again, including backpacking, rock climbing, gymnastics, and swimming. With a little creativity and the right supplies, anything is possible!

I have a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, focusing specifically on mentorship for parents who homeschool their children. I teach all four of my children at home and have grown a great deal from my experience navigating homeschool with Tenille. I have also learned about how to manage the devastating trauma and anxiety that has come with difficult procedures and a painful medical condition.

Whether you are looking for support with school, your child’s ostomy, or just need a friend who’s been there before, I would love to help you navigate your own epic journey.
