Wound care research is expanding quickly at St. Luke's. Diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and pressure ulcers are among the most prevalent of chronic wounds. Patients with chronic wounds often develop severe complications, such as infection, that can lead to amputation. The goal for wound care research is to discover methods that will achieve the most expeditious closure of wounds possible. Historically, the use of saline-moistened gauze, silver-impregnated dressings, and collagen dressings were the first-line treatment for chronic wounds, but more recently, advanced wound care research has explored exciting new treatments such as wound modulators, growth factors, and human skin equivalents.
Clinical trials in this research area are offered in St. Luke’s locations in Boise and Meridian.
