Undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), can involve medicines or surgery like transurethral resection of the prostrate (TURP). Medicines can help, but may not completely eliminate symptoms. Surgery may involve removal of part of the prostate.
St. Luke's urologists offer several treatment options for BPH, including the minimally invasive procedures HoLEP, Rezum™, and UroLift®.
HoLEP is short for holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, and is used to remove prostate tissue that may be blocking the flow of urine.
Rezum is a procedure that uses short steam treatments to target the prostate and improve function. Up to 90% of patients who receive Rezum treatments are able to go off their medication.
UroLift uses tiny implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way so it no longer blocks the urethra. There is no cutting, heating, or removal of prostate tissue.
HoLEP, Rezum, and UroLift are safe, effective, and can improve BPH symptoms. Results have shown little or no impact on sexual function. Our goal is to relieve you of bothersome urinary symptoms so you can get back to your life and resume daily activities.
