St. Luke's Children's Dietitians

Our registered dietitians help infants, children, and adolescents with nutrition and feeding problems to thrive and grow. We work with children who are underweight or overweight, and also assist with general nutrition concerns such as diet assessment, tube-feeding tube evaluation, picky eating, food allergies, or any special nutrition needs. Our family-focused approach helps set you and your child up for long-term success.

A physician referral is necessary for all appointments. It gives the dietitian the medical information needed to plan an appropriate and individualized counseling session and is also required for insurance. Please check with your insurance company to see if your child's medical condition is covered for dietitian services.

    Biography

    Laura Boquette, RD is a board certified specialist in pediatric nutrition, supporting St. Luke's pediatric gastroenterology, neurology, and genetics and metabolic clinics, with primary focus in pediatric nephrology and hypertension. She believes in a balanced and family-centered approach to improving nutrition in children with chronic illness. She serves as the clinical nutrition manager for St. Luke's Children's. Prior to joining St. Luke’s, Laura worked as a renal dietitian supporting both adults and children on dialysis.

    Laura is a member of Pediatric Renal Dietitians of North America (PRONA) and was a contributing author to the Pediatric Renal Nutrition Pocket Guide published by PRONA. She graduated from Wayne State University’s coordinated dietetic program and completed her internship in Detroit, MI. She completed training in managing a ketogenic diet for epilepsy through the University of Michigan CS Mott Children’s Ketogenic Diet Practicum.

    In her free time. Laura enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, and cooking.

    Biography

    Joanna M. Bork RD, LD specializes in working with infants and children with short bowel syndrome. She enjoys personalizing nutrition regimens and is passionate about helping to improve her patients' quality of life.

    Joanna has a wide range of experience, including neonatal nutrition, pediatric nutrition, failure to thrive, nutrition support and outpatient counseling for a variety of nutritional needs. Initially hired as an adult inpatient dietitian, she soon realized her true love was providing nutritional assistance to younger patients. During her time at St. Luke's, she has served pediatric, PICU and NICU patients, and implemented dietetic services in our NICU.

    Biography

    Krista Brown, RD, CSP, LD is a registered dietitian and nutritionist. She is board certified in pediatric nutrition and a certified ModuLife expert for the Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet. In addition to general pediatric nutrition, Krista specializes in eating disorders and gastrointestinal diseases, including but not limited to the FODMAP diet, celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, food allergies, and enteral nutrition.

    Krista earned her bachelor’s degree in dietetics from University of Idaho. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, running, cooking, being outdoors and spending time with her family.

    Biography

    Sarah M.C. Brunelle, RD, CNSC, LD is a registered dietitian, board certified in nutrition support. Her focus is in neonatal intensive care and infant nutrition. Prior to joining St. Luke’s, Sarah worked in sports nutrition, adult and pediatric acute clinical care, and community nutrition to educate pregnant and breastfeeding women about proper nutrition. 

    Sarah earned a bachelor's degree in dietetics at Idaho State University, where she also completed her dietetic internship.

    In her free time, Sarah enjoys running and hiking with her dog, skiing, and exploring Idaho with friends.

    Biography

    Nichole Cortez, RD is a pediatric dietitian supporting both inpatients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and outpatients in NICU follow-up and dietitian clinics. She has special interest in nourishing newborns through the first year of life.

    Nichole earned a bachelor's degree from Bastyr University, where she also completed her dietetic internship. She received her master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is a veteran of the US Navy.

    In her free time, Nichole enjoys doing anything she can outside, including hiking, running, and gardening.

    Biography

    Kody Duclos, RD is passionate about supporting families with proactive, patient-centered nutrition care during their hospital stay.

    Prior to joining St. Luke's Children's, Kody graduated from the University of Idaho's coordinated program in dietetics, where he completed his clinical rotation in pediatrics with a strong inpatient focus.

    In his free time, Kody enjoys hiking, cooking, being outdoors, and spending time with friends.

    Biography

    Madison Gorton, RD, LD provides nutrition counseling in the Children’s Integrative Medicine Clinic at St. Luke’s Children’s Pavilion. She supports patients and families making lifestyle changes to address pediatric overweight and obesity, dyslipidemia, pre-diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver by focusing on a well-balanced diet, intuitive eating and mindfulness, and making healthy choices in today’s challenging food environment. She has a passion for this patient population because she believes that instilling healthful habits early in life creates an opportunity for lifelong vitality. 

    Madison also spends time covering the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and inpatient pediatrics at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. She helps manage nutrition for infants and children who are critically ill using oral nutrition, tube feedings, and IV feedings as needed.

    Madison earned her bachelor's degrees in nutrition dietetics and biology from Oregon State University. She performed her supervised practice training at University of Virginia Health System with a pediatric and nutrition support focus. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog and family.

    Biography

    Rachel Hernandez, RD, CSP, LD is a registered dietitian serving both children and adults, with a special focus in pediatrics. She is passionate about promoting a healthy body image in all her patients, as well as creating personalized nutrition goals that are manageable for each patient and family. She is board-certified in pediatric nutrition and practices in a wide range of areas including ketogenic diets for epilepsy treatment, healthy eating, enteral nutrition, allergies, FODMAP diet, celiac, vegan/vegetarian diets, as well as muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis health and nutrition.

    Rachel is particularly passionate about the ketogenic diet. She obtained her keto training through the University of Michigan Medicine’s Ketogenic Diet Practicum at C.S. Mott’s Children’s Hospital and Nutricia’s Keto University program. 

    Rachel earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho while conducting undergraduate research in child feeding and completing coursework through the coordinated program in dietetics. She also interned for many programs, teaching Cooking Matters classes to teens and providing nutrition services through Southwest District Health’s WIC program.

    Biography

    Jobeth Kuchar, MS, RD, CSPCC, LD is a registered dietitian who serves children ages 0-17 for a variety of nutrition-related conditions. She has extensive experience in NICU, inpatient, and outpatient pediatric nutrition care. She is a board certified specialist in pediatric critical care and practices in a wide range of areas including infant nutrition, failure to thrive nutrition therapy, healthy eating/weight management, enteral nutrition (tube feeding), food allergies, FODMAP diet, and celiac disease. Jobeth is passionate about working with families to find a nutrition care plan that works for each child.

    Jobeth earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). She completed her internship through UNL focusing on clinical and community nutrition.

    Biography

    Gracie McDermott, MS, RDN, LD is a registered dietitian serving children with a special focus in pediatric hematology/oncology. She places great emphasis on building positive relationships and supporting families both in and out of the hospital setting. Gracie is board-certified in pediatric nutrition and practices in several areas including pediatric gastroenterology, enteral/parenteral nutrition management, and food allergies. She is particularly passionate about working with children who have been diagnosed with cancer and giving them the tools to thrive throughout their treatment course. She firmly believes that “you can’t live a full life on an empty stomach!” 

    Gracie earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition/dietetics at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. She completed her supervised practice and earned a master's degree in clinical nutrition at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Gracie has a strong background in pediatric medical nutrition therapy. 

    In her free time, Gracie enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, reading, and spending time with her dog, family, and friends.

    Biography

    Ilse Moreno, RDN, LD serves children in areas such as pediatric gastroenterology, enteral nutrition management, food allergies, and weight management as well as muscular dystrophy and spina bifida health and nutrition. Ilse utilizes a shared decision-making approach to create plans that works with patients’ and their families to help reach their nutrition and health goals. She places great emphasis on providing patients’ and their families with the support and resources needed to help them be successful.

    Ilse earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition/dietetics at the University of Idaho, where she also completed her dietetic internship.

    In her free time, Ilse enjoys drinking a nice cup of coffee, relaxing with family and friends, taking her dog on walks, reading, and exercising.

    Biography

    Kimberly Schmidt RD, CSP, LD is board certified in pediatric nutrition. She is the metabolic dietitian with St. Luke’s Clinic – Genetic and Metabolic and oversees the PKU program for the state of Idaho. Prior to joining St. Luke’s, Kimberly worked as a renal dietitian at DaVita. 

    Kimberly graduated from Washington State University's coordinated program in dietetics, completing her internship in Tacoma, Washington. 

    In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, skiing and spending time with her family and friends.

    Biography

    Shannon Stamper, RD is a registered dietitian serving both children and adults, with special focus in pediatric nutrition, healthy weight gain, and cystic fibrosis. She is passionate about improving body image and increasing motivation for physical activity using bioelectrical impedance analysis. For her cystic fibrosis patients, Shannon develops clear and concise plans based on her patients' unique dietary needs and provides additional advocacy and support as an active member of the St. Luke's Cystic Fibrosis Center of Idaho's patient and family advisory board (PFAB).

    Shannon earned her bachelor's degree in dietetics from Oregon State University and completed her dietetic internship and Idaho State University's Meridian Health Science Center. 

    In her free time, she likes spending time with the important people in her life, fixing up her home, watching Netflix, hiking, and exploring Idaho.

    Biography

    Melissa Wallinga, MS, RD, CSPCC, LD is a board certified specialist in pediatric critical care nutrition. Her focus is on inpatient pediatric critical care nutrition and malnutrition. She has also completed a certificate of training in childhood and adolescent weight management and has experience working with both youth and collegiate athletes.

    Melissa is currently pursuing a doctorate in clinical nutrition at Rutgers University. She earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science from Northwestern College and her master's degree in nutrition and exercise from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has conducted research on both school-based childhood obesity prevention programming and nutrition knowledge and nutrient intake of NCAA athletes.
