St. Luke’s McCall project moves ahead

By Laura Crawford, News and Community
September 10, 2020

Work on the St. Luke’s McCall facility replacement and expansion project recently shifted to the exterior of the new two-story space, and utility and road improvements on Hewitt Street.

Structural steel and framing work are complete and final touches are being made on the roof. The insulation and the exterior waterproof membrane are in place, allowing for installation of siding to begin, including St. Luke’s signature red brick that will accent the hospital’s new entrances. Stormwater system work is done as well, and diesel fuel tanks have been installed.

The construction team is working to seal the new building, including windows and doors, before winter sets in.

While the overall scope of the project is not expected to change, plans are continually being adjusted to accommodate construction industry and labor market changes and costs. It is likely that some clinical spaces may be shelled in and built out in the future as patient demand dictates.

A project management team, including St. Luke’s McCall and health system leaders, continues to address cost-saving opportunities, review multiple configurations, and even assess the prior decision to demolish the 1950s wing.

Additional decisions are expected before the end of 2020. Interior construction is expected to begin next spring, with occupancy of the expansion portion in the summer of 2022.
