After more than 10 years of planning and preparation, the first phase of construction for the St. Luke’s McCall hospital expansion project is set to begin June 18, pending permit approval by the City of McCall.
Initial work will span three phases and includes property structure removals on and rerouting Hewitt Street, road improvements and utility upgrades. The work is anticipated to continue through October.

This year’s improvements prepare the site for a new two-story structure that will include an expanded and modernized emergency department, medical imaging, laboratory, cardiopulmonary and infusion departments. The addition also will allow for more inpatient, labor and delivery and operating rooms.
Work continues on schematic, development and construction design. A second public process for approval will take place for this second part of the plan in the fall, with construction of the new two-story structure to begin in 2019.
The need to expand the hospital was identified several years ago to meet the needs of the growing community and to modernize the aging facility and dated infrastructure. Nearly 50 percent of the hospital is more than 60 years old and the other half is more than 20 years old, creating challenges to meet current regulatory, technology and connectivity standards.
“Expanding our hospital is a significant investment in community health,” St. Luke’s McCall Administrator Sean McCallister said. “I am personally excited to officially launch this initial phase of our project.”
