It’s easy to think of health as the absence of disease, but true health extends beyond that concept. A new program offered at St. Luke’s will help participants reach their fullest health potential.
The Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) is an 18-session lifestyle enrichment program designed to reduce disease risk factors through the adoption of better health habits and lifestyle modifications. It will be offered for the first time this summer as part of the new lifestyle medicine program available through St. Luke’s Heart Health and Rehabilitation in Meridian.
Through CHIP, participants learn how to lower blood cholesterol, hypertension and blood sugar levels and also reduce excess weight. This is done by improving dietary choices, enhancing daily exercise, increasing support systems and decreasing stress, all of which help prevent and reverse disease.
In addition to education around diet and exercise, CHIP addresses factors such as resilience, the ability to manage stress, developing healthy and strong relationships and having a sense of meaning and purpose in life. All of those elements contribute to a person’s overall health, according to the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
The cost for the program is $379 and includes a participation kit containing a textbook, workbook, cookbook, pedometer and water bottle. The program begins June 20 and is supervised and guided by a physician.
